At The Law Offices of Melissa J. Lyons, Inc., we celebrated our second anniversary last month. The firm may be two years old, but Melissa’s journey to becoming an attorney who advocates for workers’ rights began when she was nine years old.
When Melissa was a child, her mother suffered a significant lumbar spine injury while moving stacks of papers at her accounting job. It was a particularly tough injury that required five surgeries. This meant Melissa’s mother couldn’t work, and the family sometimes put off buying food and other necessities while they waited for the workers’ compensation system to process temporary disability payments. Checks were often delivered late. This experience shaped Melissa’s sense of justice and formed her dedication to workers’ rights at a young age.
Aside from a strong sense of justice, there are other qualities Melissa has that were crucial to founding her own law firm. “Pure determination and stubbornness,” she says have been vital, “to not giving up on my dream.” Anyone who’s navigated bureaucracy knows how important determination and stubbornness are to pushing through the system to advocate for workers’ rights.
Now as we complete our second year in business, we are firmly established as one of the key firms in Southern California workers’ compensation law. We have the experience and expertise to pair with determination and a strong sense of justice for the rights of injured workers.
We look forward to many more years of service to our community.
